New Blog
I've gone live with my new blog at zevils.com. This is the first major overhaul of the site since August 2000 (according to the Internet Archive.)

I've seeded the archives with some of my favorite content from the old website and this blog. I still plan on writing some stuff here (to the extent that I post personal stuff), but I won't be cross-posting things both place. The plan is to post there more frequently than I have been here; we'll see how that works out. If you want to read the new blog from LJ, friend [info]zevils.

I found running an RSS subscription was a poor way to do it. The reality is that most people add LJ friends coming from a comment you've made somewhere, and may never see that you don't actually post to your LJ. There were ltos of people who told me 'I never say that' when I mentioned a post.

Which is why I use a plugin that crossposts to LJ automatically from my WP blog. You could consider that route as well.

I don't really comment enough for that to be too much of an issue. I considered the crosspost thing, though; I decided against it because I don't want to have multiple canonical locations for my posts, and I figure that there are enough people who have me friended out of inertia/politeness that I didn't want to force more frequent updating on them.

But thank you for reminding me that you have a non-LJ blog which I should migrate to now that I'm on the RSS bandwagon :)

Meh. Anyone who reads my posts should get the 'original post over here', indicating LJ is not canonical.

Especially with recent changes and uncertain futures in LJ land, I expect more people to go with an independent route.

Also, if you are interested, as you are joining us over here in RSS adoration, I have an S2 style for LJ that will let you pump your friends list into an RSS feed, and pipe that into your aggregator and smoke it.

Or, if your friend list is small enough, you could subscribe to each person as their own RSS feed.

Yes. ;)

Question, what are you using as your feed consumption application of choice?

NetNewsWire, which plays quite nicely with Newsgator Mobile + iPhone and Newsgator Non-mobile + Being At Work

I like the idea of a standalone reader, but I am in too many different places and do not have the $2400 for an iPhone+2yr contract, so need a web based option. I have found that Google Reader does an excellent job. It didn't at first, and for a long time I actually ran Gregarius (http://gregarius.net/), as it was the only decent solution to the way I feedread (well, long ago there was another free online service, but they closed shop). Now GReader is able to fit, and the keyboard commands are a beautiful thing.

Yes! The new hotness is #e3e3e3, which is clearly the optimal gray.
